Attention all Avalon Community
Members:
We have recently received
several complaints of increasing amounts of traffic around Colonial and Avalon
Park. As Avalon Park continues to grow, the
amount of commuters around these areas grows as well. This has led to enormous
amounts of traffic interfering with many people’s jobs and daily lives. The
traffic jams have gotten so bad that teachers at University High School have had
to adjust to the traffic delays by leaving their house an hour earlier than
they used to, and has also resulted in late arrivals for students as well as
faculty. Something must be done to prevent these traffic clusters.
We have decided to
propose a ballot initiative for the 2012 Florida Ballot. North Alafaya Trail
consists of 3 lanes and rarely has any problems with traffic. Colonial on the
other hand is only a two lane road and has increasing commuters filling up
every space possible. Our proposal as a solution to this issue is to expand the
amount of lanes on Colonial Drive from Colonial and Alafaya up to Colonial and
Avalon Park. This will allow more space for commuters, and cause traffic jams
to lessen or be eliminated. If you are affected by the traffic in these areas,
or are aware that something must be done to stop the traffic from interfering
with schools and businesses, please take the time to sign our petition to get
this ballot initiative on the state ballot. We need all the signatures and
support we can get, and we thank you for reading our initiative.

“How is the ballot initiative you propose an example of direct democracy?”
A direct democracy
is not affiliated with city, state, or government, and is of the people and for
the people, and my ballot initiative is from the people (me/HOA) and for the
people (commuters/community). It allows citizens not affiliated with government
to bring an issue to awareness and get something done about it. It bypasses the
legislative process by allowing voters around the affected areas to petition the
current amount of lanes and push for expansion of lanes.
